Amman – Ahmad Krishan – The U.S. Department of Defense responded yesterday to the request sent by a team of Jordanian lawyers for compensation for the martyrdom of Jordanian soldier (Omar Asfour) in the U.S. airstrike on the site of the Jordanian field hospital in the Fallujah area, to pay financial compensation to his heirs.
Lawyer “Saeed Ali Al-Kaswani,” the defense attorney for the martyr’s heirs, said that an official letter had been received by the team of Jordanian lawyers from the U.S. Department of Defense, asking the team to provide a copy of the power of attorney from the martyr’s heirs, legally certified, in addition to specifying the value of the requested compensation so that the U.S. Department of Defense could pay it to the heirs.
He added that the U.S. Department of Defense also requested basic information about the nature of the Jordanian soldier’s martyrdom and details of the incident, noting that a set of required documents had been sent to the U.S. administration to take the necessary actions in this regard.
He pointed out that the Jordanian team would travel to the United States to potentially find the best solution to the case without resorting to the courts in order to pay the necessary compensation to the martyr’s heirs, who left behind a wife and several children.
It is worth mentioning that the site of the Jordanian hospital in Fallujah was attacked on September 12, 2003, and the airstrike led to the martyrdom of the Jordanian soldier at the hospital site in Fallujah.
